NEWMAC Current Student-Athlete Spotlight - Annika Keck, WPI

Annika Keck, WPI

Class: Sophomore
Sport: Soccer
Position: Center Back
Major: Mechanical Engineering

What made you choose WPI?
I loved the incredibly close community that WPI has. Anyone you meet is always willing to help out, and the project-based learning allows you to become closer with classmates. From the minute I stepped on campus, I knew that I'd be able to push myself athletically and academically.

What is your most memorable moment as a NEWMAC student-athlete?
Scoring a couple of goals in our playoff games last year and helping the team reach the NEWMAC finals.

What do you enjoy most about being a Division III Student-Athlete?
I love being able to play soccer at a high level while pursuing an engineering degree. I don't have to sacrifice academics for athletics, or vice versa.

Do you have a favorite event or matchup with a fellow NEWMAC institution that you always look forward to every year?
All of our conference games were really fun to play in, but the playoff games added an extra sense of importance that made them even more competitive. Our team really pushed one another to raise our level of play and we were rewarded by that effort.

Can you give us a brief description of your major and why you chose it?
I am studying mechanical engineering, with a focus on mechanical design. I love being able to model and create things, and can't wait to be able to design machines that help people.

Do you have any future plans you want to share?
No plans as of now!

Any additional information you would want to share with us to release to our viewers? Hidden talents, fun fact, favorite TV show, favorite music before a game etc...
I am a huge Arsenal fan, so my brother and I used to wake up at 4am on weekends to watch the matches from California.
